Duration: 6 Semesters (36 months of one week-end contact per month)

1.1 Philosophy

The Executive Doctoral programmes are designed to create opportunities and challenges for candidates to attain the highest level of their potentials in professional practice of business, careers and or in the public sector. The programmes are aimed at producing highly competent and qualified administrative doctorates capable of assuming senior leadership roles in public and private sectors of the economy. It will sharpen their professional knowledge from varying perspectives. They are also given broad-based orientation that will enable them to function maximally in application of their knowledge and skills in the environment for which they are being prepared.

1.2 Objectives

The Executive Doctoral programmes are designed to provide specialised education and training for high level administrators and managers. They require general familiarity with crucial knowledge of the various segments in the administration and discipline. Candidates may be interested in investigating their peculiar organizational challenges and finding solutions to them. A successful completion of the programme requires an ability to make full and intensive use of relevant concepts, tools and ability to communicate these to other people for the advancement of organizations.

1.3 Scope

The Executive Doctoral programmes cut across various areas in industry. Students will complete relevant sessions of practical case analysis in related areas in addition to case thesis writing.

1.4 Entry Requirements

Candidates for the Doctoral programmes should have the following:

  • Minimum of 5 (five) years working experience in industry

INCLUDING

  • Executive Masters in Business Administration (Executive MBA), or Masters degree in ANY business-related discipline.

OR

  • Masters degree in Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, Law, Engineering, Estate Management, Hospital Administration, Health Economics, Public Health.

OR

  • Masters degree in any discipline with at least a minimum of 5 (five) years MANAGERIAL experience.

Admission is done twice in a year: April and October

1.5 Mode of Study

The mode of study for the Executive Doctoral programmes shall be by organisational case studies, seminar presentations and case thesis reports.

1.6 Duration

The duration for the doctoral programmes shall be six (6) semesters– 3 years.

1.7 Employment Opportunities

The Executive Doctoral programmes prepare students to improve professionalism in business practices, entrepreneurship development, careers and consultancy. The programmes equally train them to fill senior level management positions in business, commerce, industry, and government.

1.8 Fee Structure

The fee is N500, 000 per semester for six (6) semesters – (three years).

EDB 931         Seminar Presentations in Management related Issues.                       (3units)

This course is designed to acquaint students with contemporary issues of managing organizations in the 21st century and beyond. Areas to be covered include: Strategic management, Operation and Project management, Advanced management functions, Organizational core -competencies and key success factors at the industrial levels, Organizational leadership, Entrepreneurship and organizational change.

EDB 933         Seminar Presentations on Banking and Finance.                                (3units)

This course is intended to improve student’s knowledge on current issues on activities of banks and other financial institutions. Areas to be addressed include: Understanding the Economy, Economic System and the Environment of Business, Money and Aspects of Banking, Perspectives on Lending Requirements and Associated Risks (Lender/Borrower), Sources of Finance, Aspects of Financial Statement Analysis and Contemporary Issues (Interactive Discussion).

EDB 935         Seminar Presentations on Accounting Issues                         (3units)

This course is envisioned to assist students on burning issues of auditing firms, banks and other financial institutions and on the effective use of accounting and auditing information in business operations. Other areas include: Development of accounting standards- IFRS and IPSAS; Corporate audit and assurance, Performance management, Accounting for the environment and Corporate social responsibility accounting.

EDB 937         Seminar Presentations in Marketing related Issues.               (3units)

This course is planned to support students on contemporary issues of value chain marketing. Areas to be covered include: Marketing mix element and relationship, Strategic marketing management, Issues confronting marketing practitioners, Business to Business marketing, Ethics and corporate social responsibility and Legal aspects of marketing.

EDB 920         Case Studies and Analysis on Management.                          (3units)

This course is designed to prepare students on practical issues of managing organizations in the 21st century and beyond. Areas to be covered include cases on: Strategic management, Operation and Project management, Core-competencies and key success factors, leadership style, and organizational change.

EDB 922         Case Studies and Analysis in Banking and    Finance                        (3 units)

This course is envisioned to acquaint students of varied cases on activities in banking and financial institutions.  Focused areas include cases on: Economic system and the environment of business, Money and Aspects of Banking, Perspectives on Lending Requirements and Associated Risks (Lender/Borrower).

This course is intended to avail students of practical cases on Strategic Innovation in globally diverse markets. Areas to be covered include cases on: Marketing mix element and relationship, Strategic marketing management, Issues confronting marketing practitioners, Business to Business marketing, Ethics and corporate social responsibility.

EDB 926         Case Studies and Analysis in Accounting                                          (3 units)

Applied Application of Scientific Methods in the Study and Analysis of Business and relevant Activities; Research Designs; Data Collection Methods; Sampling Techniques; Data Analysis Methods, Measurement Scales; Interpretation and Presentation of Business Research Results; Applications of Research in Business Problem-Solving.

EDB 990         Case Thesis (in any area of student’s interest)                       (6 units)

Candidate is required to write a case thesis on an approved topic. There will be oral defense of the thesis before an external examiner.

EAG 917 Advanced AgriBusiness (for DBA)

This course exposes students to the advanced methods of agricultural businesses. Areas to be covered include: Environment of Agric Business; Agricultural Business Management; Agricultural Financing; Agricultural Cooperatives and Warehousing; Agricultural Marketing and trading; Agricultural Value Chain.

ECR 917 Advanced Credit and Financial Risk Management (for DBA)

This course is envisioned to expose students, on advanced ways of managing and resolving credit and financial risks. Areas to be covered include Environment for risk management activities; Credit Risk Management and Financial Risk Management of diverse natures, issues, mitigants and resolutions. Other associated issues are Country Risk Management; Industry Risk Management; Enterprise Risk Management, etc.

EEM 917 ADVANCED ECONOMIC POLICY MANAGEMENT (for Dr.EPM)

This course is envisioned to acquaint students with the advanced treatment of practical issues of economic management. Topics include micro and macroeconomic fundamentals; growth/development and policy; policy formulation, analysis and implementation; managing policies and projects, monitoring and evaluation, etc.

ERP 917 Advanced Enterprise Resource Planning (for DBA)

This course is intended to acquaint students with current issues on enterprise resource planning. Areas to be addressed include: Environment for enterprise resource planning; Human Capital Planning; Business Intelligence; Demand &Supply Chain Management. Technology Management. Financial Management.

ESD 917 Advanced Ethics and Sustainable Development (for DBA)

This course introduces students to advanced philosophies, paradigms and practices of ethics for sustainable development; Areas to covered include: Environment of ethics and sustainable development; Philosophical paradigms of ethics and sustainable development;  Ethical questions embedded in business sustainability; Ethics,  Corporate governance and organizational performance; Key ethical principles and sustainability development issues; Ethical  decision making framework and Business sustainable development.

EBL 917   Advanced Business Leadership (for Dr.BL)

This course is envisioned to train students on surmounting leadership issues and challenges.  The areas of focus include: Conceptualizing leadership, leadership skills and models; Leadership ethics; Team leadership, Gender and leadership, Culture and leadership; Cases on leadership.

EPL 917    Advanced Public Leadership (for Dr.PL)

This course equips students with the leadership styles required in public sector today. The areas to be covered include: the relationship between political leadership and organizational/institutional leadership: Different approaches that have been adopted by public service leaders in organizations around the globe and their level of success; Best practices in Public leadership: Public leadership ethics: Gender and leadership: Cases on public leadership.

EMF 917     Advanced Finance (for DBA)

This course introduces students to advanced methods of financing of organizations.The contents; Environment of Finance and Banking; Financial Intermediation; Financing Activities of aspects of the National Economy- Agriculture, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Solid mineral, Telecommunication etc; Financial Management, Financial Regulation; International Financial System and Institutions, etc.

EHT 917 Advanced Hospitality and Tourism Management (for     DBA)

This course is designed to equip students in the hospitality and tourism industries with the required tools for effective and efficient management of their organizations. ELS 917 Advanced Logistics and Supply Chain management (for DBA)

This course is envisioned to provide students with knowledge of advanced developments in logistics and supply chain management. Areas to covered included: Development of accounting standards- Environment of Logistic and Supply Chain management; Supply Chain strategy and sustainability; Logistic operation and outsourcing management; Storage and warehousing techniques; Inventory Planning, Green Supply Chain Management: Lean Practices

EMC 917 Advanced Marketing Communications (for DBA)

This course introduces students to advanced methods of marketing communication. Areas to be covered include: Environment of marketing communication; Marketing communications; Objectives, Strategies and Planning Corporate Identity; Reputation and Branding, Media Behavior and planning Contemporary issues in marketing communication.

EOM 917 Advanced Oil and Gas Marketing (for DBA)

This course equips students with the requisite marketing skills for assumption of leadership positions in the oil and gas industry. Areas to be covered include nature of the oil and gas industry, the position of oil and gas in the development matrix, tools for marketing and selling, resolving marketing problems, national and international dimensions of oil and gas marketing, resolving issues, best practices, etc.

EPM 917 Advanced Project Management (for DBA)

This course is envisioned to equip students with requisite tools needed in the world of project management. Specific areas to be covered include: Project definition;  The Manager;  The Organization and the Team;  Project activity and Risk planning;  Budgeting the project;  Scheduling the project;  Allocating resources to the project;  Monitoring and controlling the project;  Evaluating and closing the project; etc.

EPA 917 Advanced Public Sector Accounting (for DBA)

This course is designed to inculcate in students the relevant skills capacity for the management of accounting processes and activities in the public sector of the economy. Areas to be covered include accounting as it relates to local government, state government, central government, public sector organizations and institutions.

EPR 917 Advanced Public Relations (For DBA)

This course is designed to train students on the role, process, strategy and application of public relations. Specific areas to be covered include: Ethical considerations and the role of professional bodies; the Practice of public relations; Public relations process; Conflict management and Crisis communication; Media Relations Management- print and electronic media. Cases on public relations.

EDX 917   Advanced Taxation (for DBA)

This course is envisioned to assist students to understand the practical requirements of advanced taxation training. Areas to covered include: Tax environment. Taxation planning and executon. Private Sector taxation.
